Williams isn't writing for algorithms or approval. He’s writing to break spells—the ones that keep us quiet, keep us safe, and keep us from dreaming.

What inspired this book - and why now?

"I was tired of watching stories about us without us. I needed a story where we owned our power, our mistakes, our futures. The world we live in is chaotic and messy, but there’s still joy, still love. I wanted a story that held all of that."

What was a pivotal moment in your writing journey?

"Reading aloud to my wife, Nicole. She’s the no-fluff, no-hype voice I trust most. When she leaned in instead of checking out—that was the moment I knew this mattered."

What’s a scene that hits hardest for you?

"The final confrontation with Symone and her past. It’s layered, not just action. It’s grief, guilt, forgiveness—or maybe just the hope of it. That scene gutted me to write."

"Being an indie author simply means I'm the master and commander of this ship. Me, and no one else. I'm not depending on anyone or anything to make this happen."

To call Echoes a superhero story is almost a disservice. Yes, it punches and flies and erupts with powered spectacle. But it’s also a story about Black resilience, Black brilliance, and Black imagination, untethered from whitewashed archetypes. Williams doesn’t tiptoe. He floods the page with reverence and revolution.

His writing rhythm is rooted in something personal: growing up, Eddie was captivated by video game soundtracks. He memorized how to get to the sound tests on games like Sonic 2 and Rocket Knight Adventures, plugging in his headphones while he ironed, did homework, or just lived life to the music of pixelated heroes. Those beats, he says, helped shape his creative life and still influence how he processes storytelling.

Indie publishing gave him control, but also responsibility. Every choice in this book is intentional, from pacing to page breaks. Eddie isn’t just telling stories. He’s building mythologies. Creating what wasn’t there for him growing up. And offering it up now, page by page, for the rest of us.

And when it came to bringing Echoes to life, he didn't hesitate. It was Book One that nearly stopped him cold, with the overwhelming weight of edits and revisions. "I thought it would be a convoluted mess of words," he admits. "But I decided to publish it anyway—not for anyone but me (and Nicole, of course)." That leap of faith set the whole saga in motion.
